Risk Factors to Develop ALS
ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease as we call, refers to rare and incurable nervous system disease. Do you know the risk factors to develop ALS? Let's see and avoid these possible risky factors.
Currently the causes of ALS still have not been identified, and that's why researchers can't find the cure for it. But related studies suggest that there are some risk factors to develop ALS which may significantly increase the chance of developing ALS.
Risk factors to develop ALS can be divided into established factors (such as age, sex and heredity) and environmental factors (such as smoking and lead exposure).
Most people who develop ALS are between the ages of 40 and 70, with an average age of 55 at the time of diagnosis. Generally though, ALS occurs in greater percentages as men and women grow older. ALS is 20% more common in men than in women. However as age increases, the incidence of ALS is more equal between male and female.
