Do stem cells work on the aged patients with CP? According to our clinical experience, the earlier to receive stem cell treatment, the better effect may be achieved. People may be worried about their age whether they are appropriate for stem cell treatment and how effective stem cell treatment will help them. Now we’d like to answer this question by a patient’s story of 27 year-old young man with CP.
The young man’s name is Xiao Xin, and he has already suffering from dyskinetic cerebral palsy for his past 27 years. He experienced difficulty labor when he was born, which lengthened the second stage of labor. His body was violaceous after birth, and he could only cry for the first time after taking oxygen treatment. In the following days, he was diagnosed with athetoid cerebral palsy.
Before receiving the first course of stem cell treatment, Xiao Xin had high muscle tension with both his lower limbs, poor fine motor skills with both his hands and inflexible upper limbs. Besides, he couldn’t speak clearly. He could walk alone, but unsteadily. When he walked, he couldn’t raise his right leg by himself.

Although Xiao Xin is aged in terms of cerebral palsy treatment, stem cells worked on him. The high muscle tension with both his lower limbs was obviously decreased and he could walk steadily and especially he could raise his right leg and step forward, which is beyond his expectation. He could speak clearly now, however, the motor skills of his hands are not improved obviously. Seeing these improvements that never happened in the past 27 years, Xiao Xin was more confident with the stem cell treatment, and he believed the second course will make much better improvements.
